Buddha Beach was the glamourous venue for Miss and Mister Marbella last week. Eighteen-year-old college student Lidia Santos Jiménez and Víctor Illescas Diez a 21-year-old National Police Cadet took the titles of Miss and Mister Marbella respectively. Thirty contestants took part in the event, which saw them appearing in underwear, beach wear and evening wear, in front of a panel of judges that included Marbella fashion designer Carmen Piedra, Míster Málaga 2009 Salvador Martín Millán and Miss Málaga 2009 Ursula Aguilar Córdoba, who will be representing Málaga in the forthcoming Miss España contest, held in Toledo on September 25. Other judges included Buddha Beach’s Charley Carrigan Caradas and Bob Strutton, as well as restaurateur Howard Holland, Zoe Strutton and former model Margaret Holland. As well as the competition, guests enjoyed fabulous performances from English Duo Masquerade, as well as up and coming Spanish Star Yanira Figueroa, as well as the famous gastronomic delights of Buddha Beach’s famous buffet.
At the end of the evening Ursula Aguilar Córdoba presented the crown and winner’s sash to Lidia Santos Jiménez, who will now go on to represent Marbella in Miss Malaga 2011.

Buddha Beach, Puerto Banus’ boutique beach club, got summer 2010 off to a golden start with its summer opening party last weekend. Over 600 of Marbella’s glittering social scene, dressed in gold and white, were on enjoy a fantastic night that included Lauren Perrier Champagne, stiltwalkers, fire breathers, live music and percussion and sexy dancers strutting their stuff to the music of DJ Mark E Strut.

Among the celebrity guests were England and Tottenham Hotspur player David Bentley, Manchester City & Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given and several other Premiership players including Jermaine Beckford, Liam Ridgwell , and Ian Harte. Sky Sports were also at the event and took the opportunity to interview several of the players.

Buddha Beach was also delighted to welcome Marbella Mayor Angeles Munoz to the event, and the mayor was able to take a little time out her busy schedule to enjoy the evening! Buddha Beach’s Ian Radford commented “It’s great to be able to welcome so many old friends and new guests to our official summer opening party. We may only be in our third season, but its already become a Marbella tradition and this is definitely our best one yet!”

On  Saturday, Essex’s most famous club promoters LoveJuice come to Buddha Beach for an all day and all night party. With summer just around the corner, Buddha Beach is delighted to bring you an exciting line up of artist who will be performing live throughout July and August. On July 17 80s chart toppers Imagination, famed for their hits “Just an Illusion”, “Bodytalk” and “Flashback” and featuring flamboyant lead singer Leee John will be playing live. Legendary Soul group The Drifters will be bringing their superb live show to Buddha Beach on July 31, performing classic songs such as “Under the Boardwalk” and “Saturday Night at the Movies”. The music takes a more relaxed feel for three nights from August 6-8, when Buddha Beach presents the music of the Gipsy Kings, featuring Manolo and Lito, the Gipsys from Marseille, while the final live act this season will be Gwen Dickey, the legendary voice of 70s soul sensation Rose Royce’s biggest hits including “Car Wash”, “Love don’t live here Anymore” and “Wishing on a Star” for one night only.

All of the acts will be performing with full bands with shows lasting a minimum of 75 minutes. The Drifters, Imagination and Gwen Dickey performances will have a tradition buffet with seafood, meat and vegetarian dishes as well as a delicious Thai Buffet, while a huge paella will be served during the Manolo and Lito performance. Tickets for The Drifters, Imagination and Gwen Dickey, including Buffet, are priced at 125-145 Euros, but Buddha are offering an early booking price of 95-125 Euros if booked before May 31. Tickets for Manolo and Lito are priced at 50 Euros and include paella.

The rain stopped, the sun came out and it was like summer had never been away as Buddha Beach opening last Thursday for the 2010. And it was great to see so many of you just popping in to say hello, have a coffee (or something a little stronger). Buddha Beach’s Special Spring Menu, at just 15 euros for two courses, also proved popular and our restaurant was busy throughout the weekend.

It may be a new season, but some things at Buddha Beach never change, an there were some familiar faces around the pool, and let’s not forget Mike, who made the first of his daily dips into the Med on Thursday!

Thursday Limelight

Thursday just wouldn’t be Thursday at Buddha Beach without Limelight, and once again, Buddha Beach’s very own DJ Mark E Strutt will be taking to the decks to bring you the very latest in R and B, Dance and whatever else he feels like throwing into the mix! Broadcast live along the coast and on the Internet, Limelight also brings you the sexiest dancers plus a few surprises, as well as the best party crowd in town!

Buddha Beach, Marbella’s first boutique beach club, is looking forward to the first summer of the decade when it opens on Friday March 26! Located only a short walk from the jet set marina of Puerto Banus, Buddha Beach has become the favourite beach club for celebrities, residents and visitors who enjoy the relaxed, bespoke location. You might even spot a sporting hero or two at Buddha as well!

Taking its inspiration from Thailand and the exotic Far East, the main beach club area at Buddha Beach is set back from the shore with raised wooden decked sunbathing and seating areas with views out to the Mediterranean, as well as around the pool.
